Dining Options

AmaWaterways’ expert chefs craft menus that feature exquisite, locally-inspired cuisine as well as traditional, Western offerings. At breakfast, sip sparkling wine as you partake fresh pastries, or opt for something made-to-order from the menu. Stop by the Main Lounge for a light lunch, or head to the restaurant for full menu service and high-quality regional wine or beer. Dinner is a delectable, multi-course affair with wine recommendations that accompany visually stunning, delicious dishes. Try local favourites — like goulash while cruising through Hungary, bratwurst and sauerkraut after returning to the ship from Vienna, or Camembert cheese while on the Seine — or something more familiar, like a sandwich. No matter what your preference, your taste buds are sure to be impressed.

Aboard our ships, you’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to personalising your dining experience. Head to the Main Restaurant or The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant to savour award-winning cuisine. Stop by the Main Lounge for tapas between meals. You’ll also find a light lunch and snacks throughout the day here. And on board AmaMagna, there are four unique dining experiences, including our Al Fresco Restaurant and Jimmy’s Restaurant.

More Views

Sophisticated, contemporary and elegantly appointed, your spacious stateroom serves as your personal oasis for rejuvenation. Most of the staterooms in our fleet feature not just one, but two private balconies — a French balcony and a full outside balcony. In fact, we were the very first river cruise line to offer these signature view-enhancing “twin balconies.” Together, they provide a unique panoramic view of the beautiful sights along the river while inviting both fresh air and natural light inside. With twin balconies, you can enjoy the river however you wish.

Other Information

Disabled FacilitiesArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Europe: Wheelchair accessibility is very limited on our European ships. We do have an elevator between the two main decks, however it does not reach the Sun deck or Piano deck. They would be able to move around the dining room and lounge in their chair, however the rooms are not able to accommodate a wheelchair, so while in their stateroom they would need to be able to move around on their own. Their chair would also need to be stored in their stateroom, due to limited storage on board. Getting on and off the ship, could be a challenge, as the planks are narrow and cannot accommodate a wheelchair or scooter's width. They would have to be able to get on and off the ship without their wheelchair and the wheelchair would have to be light enough to be lifted off and on the ramps. It is common to tie up to other river ships in port. When this happens we would sometimes need to travel through another ship to disembark, with many ships requiring we do so from the Sun deck, where there is only stair access.

During the excursions, a good majority of the cities visited have the cobble stone walkways, this may be a challenge to manoeuvre with a wheelchair. The motor coaches we use as a main means of transport do not have any sort of lift and there are 4 or 5 steep steps to get on and off.

Vietnam, Cambodia & Africa: These itineraries require a person to be able bodied. There are many unpaved roads and the ships do not have elevators.

Smoking PolicyArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside any of the ships. Smoking is only permitted on the Sun Deck. For the safety and comfort of all passengers on board, your cooperation in observing the no-smoking policy is greatly appreciated.

Dietary RequirementsArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Please advise your Travel Agent or call us directly to advise if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies prior to embarkation. In most cases, we will do our best to accommodate special dietary requests and food allergies, but with one exception: Kosher. This diet has specific rules regarding food and its preparation and the shipboard environment does have limitations that prevent us from being able to adequately cater to this dietary need. Please note, though we can provide options to accommodate food allergies and sensitivities, we cannot guarantee there will not be any cross-contamination.

Dress CodeArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Comfortable "Casually Elegant" is the recommended attire for daytime, and to pack something a little dressier for the Captain’s night/Farewell Dinner – similar to how one would dress to dine at a 5-star restaurant. Comfortable shoes are recommended for excursions and workout clothing if you plan to take part in any wellness activities, active tours or use the onboard gym. Depending on the time of year, clothing that can be layered is highly recommended.

Vietnam & Cambodia: It is always advisable to travel light in Southeast Asia. For the hot and humid weather, lightweight easy-care clothing that includes some long-sleeved items for protection from mosquitoes and sun, raingear, and sturdy and comfortable walking shoes that you won’t mind getting wet or muddy. We also recommend you pack a few smart casual items to wear at the Welcome and Farewell dinners.

Africa: When traveling through Africa, it is always advisable to travel light as some itineraries baggage size and weight are strictly limited. On Safari: casual, easy-care clothing that includes some long-sleeved items for protection from mosquitoes and sun. Attire during Winter (April - September): it is wise to bring some warm clothes for chilly early morning and late night temperatures. Dressing in layers is also recommended, as temperatures rise quickly during the day.

Dining in Town: If you plan on dining at a fine restaurant in a city such as Cape Town or Johannesburg, “smart casual” is the norm – no ties for men or evening dresses for women are necessary.

Age RestrictionsArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Children under twelve years of age are not recommended on tours and cruises. Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and share their accommodation with an adult.

Medical FacilitiesArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

Europe: There are no medical facilities on board. However medical services can easily be called from shore if required.

Vietnam & Cambodia: We do not employ doctors or nurses on board the ships. In the event medical assistance is needed, appropriate medical facilities will be contacted. Note that response time can vary.

Africa: We do not employ doctors or nurses on board the Zambezi Queen. In the event medical assistance is needed, appropriate medical facilities will be contacted. Note that response time can vary.

Giving BackArrow up click to collapse dayArrow Up - Click to expand day

AmaWaterways is the proud sponsor of the ODA Free Village English School in Siem Reap, Cambodia, established in 2011 in association with Opportunities of Development thru Art (ODA). Our financial support to the school brings critical English-language skills to local children of grammar-school age to help improve their lives and assist with subsequent employment opportunities.

We are extremely honoured to participate in such a constructive and lasting project as this life-changing school. We encourage all AmaWaterways guests to visit this remarkable part of the world, known for its stunning temple complexes and the friendly people who live there.

Helping from Home

Our generous guests often ask if there is anything they can bring from home to donate to the ODA Free Village English School. There are more than 600 children enrolled in the school, so there are never enough books or educational materials to go around. If you are interested in making a contribution, we suggest:

Basic school supplies - pencils with erasers, erasers, pens, chalk, small notebooks, jumbo felt tip pens, post-it notes, dry erase markers (and blue and red ink refills), exercise books, highlighters, building blocks, large threading beads, paints, simple wooden jigsaw puzzles, laminated write-and-wipe books, UNO cards, and very simple storybooks with lots of pictures.

Personal hygiene supplies: soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and mini tubes of toothpaste.

If you prefer to make an online donation, please visit:

All donations made through this website are processed and collected by Project Kids Art, a 501(c)(3) registered in the United States. Donations made by U.S. citizens are tax-deductible. Funds are distributed to four village schools in the Siem Reap area, including the ODA Free Village English School. When making your donation, please make a note on PayPal's Additional Comments field which reads "AmaWaterways Free English School."

Thank you!
